What Is FUE?

Follicular unit extraction, or FUE, is a precise method of harvesting hair follicles from one area on the body to transplant in another area. There are two modern methods of hair transplant – FUE and FUT (follicular unit transplantation) – and both are effective in moving hair follicles. The difference is the harvesting method. FUE removes 1-4 follicles at a time without incisions; FUT removes strips of hair follicles, requiring incisions and stitches.

FUE results are preferred by many patients as it is more discreet, and the recovery is quicker. FUT can leave noticeable linear scars, while FUE does not leave visible scarring. However, FUE is a slower and more expensive procedure, especially if performed manually with forceps. The NeoGraft system improved the FUE procedure in multiple ways.
